Walking With Dinosaurs: The Live Experience

UNLV and Thomas & Mack Center present Walking With Dinosaurs - The Live Experience. Fifteen “live” dinosaurs take center stage to depict the dinosaurs’ evolution spanning their 200 million year existence. Stars of the show include 15 actual-sized dinosaurs including the Tyrannosaurus Rex, Stegosaurus, Brachiosaurus, and the Raptor.
Based on the award-winning BBC TV series, the show is a narrated tour through the many ages of the dinosaurs by a lone, onstage “archaeologist.” The dialog is full of the science and geology of the times – plate tectonics, continental drift as well as details about the 15 species represented. All appear in the proper millennia and scientific order.
These aren’t herky-jerky theme park animitronics, either. Each dinosaur is an elaborate combination of space-age puppetry, hydraulics, and age-old artistry. Vast metal skeletons draped with meticulously painted “skins” are powered by small electrically powered scooter cabs underneath each of the large creatures. Masked drivers maneuver the beasts, and the smallest animals are actually costumed actors.
The show runs from January 9-13 at the Thomas & Mack Center. Tickets can be purchased at unlvtickets.com or by calling 739-FANS. Tickets range from $30.50 to $72.50.
