Tipping in Las Vegas

Las Vegas is full of freebies: free valet parking, free drinks at the slots, free shuttles, etc. However, it’s a good idea to always have a few bucks in your pocket for a tip.
You could argue that the services are free and therefor you’re not obligated to pay, which is fine, but keep in mind that if you do believe in tipping for good service chances are you’ll continue getting good service!
Below is a general guideline for tips for the average Las Vegas visitor (ie: non-high rollers!) for services typically given during your stay, as well as when to give the tip. You’ll find that most of it is actually pretty reasonable and comes in well under the amount you’d pay if you had to purchase the service.
Restaurants: standard 15-20% of bill, pre-tax. Buffets with no drink service $1-2 per person in your party.
Valet: $1-$3 per car after your car is brought back to you; tip more and up-front if you want a better spot.
Casino cocktail waitress: $1 every drink or two, more will ensure you’ll never be without one in your hand! Pay as drinks are served.
Bartender: $1 per round up to two people, $1 per drink with three or more people; pay as drinks are served.
Dealers: $2-$10 throughout your stay at the table. Less or none if after a couple of rounds you keep losing.
Taxi drivers: $2 minimum, more if he or she gave good tips and information; include with your fare when you get to your destination.
Hotel housekeeping: $2-$5 per night at the end of your stay; make sure tip is laid on the bed in an envelope or with a note that says “housekeeping” so it’s not treated as something left behind. Tipping each day has been known to get you some neat upgrades, though!
Hotel bellman: $1 per bag, minimum of $2 (for example, if you have just one bag tip the $2); pay when you get to your room.
Airport shuttle drivers: $1 per bag that needs to be loaded/unloaded, $2 minimum; pay when bags are unloaded.
Slot attendants: .5-1% of winnings.
Like I said, these are just guidelines; If you’re feeling generous you can bet it won’t go unnoticed or unappreciated!
