The Monte Carlo is Burning

News just broke (shortly after 11am) that the Monte Carlo Resort & Casino has a three-alarm fire burning on some of its top floors in the west wing. Five floors are burning and debris is falling and lighting lower areas as well. There are four different areas that appear to be on fire and four welders were trapped on the rooftop. There are no reports of injuries yet.
Traffic along that area of the Strip, from Harmon to Tropicana, is being closed down to allow emergency crews access. The thick black smoke can be seen for miles as the fire rapidly spreads. Guests are being evacuated from the New York, New York and Bellagio as well.

The Monte Carlo is a 32-floor hotel with 3000 rooms. The last major hotel fire on the Strip happened in 1980 at the MGM Grand and killed 84 people.
