The Las Vegas CAT Bus

by Heather on June 5th, 2008

The Citizens Area Transit, or CAT bus (no, not that one!), of Las Vegas and Henderson is one of the most affordable ways to make your way around the city!

The route that runs the Strip features a double decker (pictured above) called The Deuce, and runs 24 hours a day, seven days a week and is $2 each way. One way residential fares are $1.25, and extended passes can even be purchased online and mailed to you, or you can purchase them in person at a Ticket Vending Machine.

There are 360 vehicles that run 36 routes, with three dedicated to just the Strip making stops approximately every block.

Make sure you check out the “transit rules of conduct” before planning a ride, though. There are the standards of exact change and no pets, but you also need to make sure you’re fully dressed (shirts and shoes!), don’t light up, and don’t bring unsecured food or beverages on board with you.

On October 3rd, my son and I were getting on the Jones #102 North at 2:39 pm.My son has a half price pass because he is legally blind. The driver was named Charlie, according to the name tag.He is ALWAYS,extremely rude, even vile tempered. He blocked my son from using his pass by putting his hand over the pass swipe machine. He then screamed at him to show his half-price ID which he did show. He then refused me access to the bus, he said I had to pay. I have a bus pass. My son’s pass should have been marked for a companion. It was an error @ the time he received the pass. This bus is used for medical appointments,& this driver said that he is not ever going to allow us on the bus again. He called in to the CAT offices and lied about me and my son.I just told him that we had an urgent appointment and that his pass will be marked for companion status. He called the police and I said that it was fine with me because we have a right to use the bus.He asked why we weren’t driving, and I told him it was because we have a right to use the transit system.I am contacting my attorney:and I would appreciate a call in order to tell the RTC,director about this disgusting driver.I have the fare and he accused me of defrauding the bus company, which is totally untrue. This person is a disgrace to the RtC. He has threatened me last winter also, after I paid full fare when I did not use a bus pass he shouted that he will get me. That was last winter and I did call this threat in to the cat ride that day. Please help, as I and my son use this bus system for medical visits, and this driver may cause us damage by delaying us for no reason, as he has said that he will not stop for us or let us on a bus that he is driving. 702-426-4971
