A contest among the employees at the Mirage has determined the name of the newest dolphin at Siegfried & Roy’s Dolphin Habitat.

The one month old calf, born September 6, has been named Bella, a name submitted by front services attendant Tony Christopher. Bella’s mother, Huf n Puf, was also born at the Habitat in 2000. The pair are currently in the Birthing and Research pool along with Huf n Puf’s mother Duchess, who will actually help Huf n Puf with the new baby! The pool is open to public viewing during regular operational hours of the Habitat.

Siegfried & Roy’s Secret Garden and Dolphin Habitat is open daily from 11:00 a.m. – 6:00 p.m. on weekdays, and 10:00 a.m. – 6:00 p.m. on weekends and holidays.

Tickets are pretty affordable at $15.00 for adults, $10.00 for kids ages 4 – 12, and free for kids 3 and under when accompanied by an adult.

We’re in the last several weeks of (official) summer and while I’ve written about public pools in Vegas for families and kids, several hotels on the Strip (or just off) also offer deals and specific swim times for adults only:

The Tropicana hosts a “Mint Mondays” pool party with food, live music, a DJ, pool volleyball, swimming and dancing from noon to 11:00 p.m. on Mondays. Admission is free. (3801 Las Vegas Blvd. South)

The Hard Rock offers a relaxing adults-only swim from 11:00 a.m.-6:00 p.m. on Mondays. It’s $20 for men and $10 for women, and local women get in free with ID. (4455 Paradise Road)

Wet Republic at MGM Grand is open from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. daily. It costs $10 for women and $20 for men Mondays through Thursdays, and $20 for women, $40 for men Fridays through Sundays. Local women are free with ID. (3799 Las Vegas Blvd. South)

Bare at The Mirage has adult swim at 11:00 a.m. until 7:00 p.m. Thursdays through Mondays. It’s $10 for women and $20 for men. (3400 Las Vegas Blvd. South)

The Rio Sapphire Pool is open 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. daily, and is $10 for women every day, $30 for men Mondays through Fridays, $50 for men Saturdays and Sundays, $60 for men on holidays. (Got that?) (3700 W. Flamingo Road)

Two of Jay Leno’s upcoming shows at the Mirage will benefit Iowa flood victims: The proceeds from the 10pm shows on June 25th and 27th at the Danny Gans Theatre will go to the Greater Cedar Rapids Community Foundation, a charity created to help support the quality of life in the community.

“We are extremely grateful for Mr. Leno’s support of our community,” said Dan Baldwin, president and CEO of the GCRCF. “Laughter and a sense of humor are important in getting all of us back to a sense of normal. The funds generated from these shows will have a tremendous impact on our recovery efforts.”

Yesterday The Mirage welcomed five new additions to Siegfried & Roy’s Secret Garden and Dolphin Habitat – six-week-old white-striped and golden tiger cubs!

The public will get its first chance to see the rare babies today, June 13th, in a special nursery created just for them at the Secret Garden. Today is also Siegfried’s 69th birthday! (Holy cow, he looks great!)

“We are delighted to welcome these cubs to their new home at the Secret Garden,” said Scott Sibella, President of The Mirage. “They make a wonderful addition to Siegfried & Roy’s animal family.”

Roy said, “While we no longer perform nightly, our conservation efforts to save and care for these magnificent creatures are part of our daily life. These new cubs are a gift from the universe and it brings us great joy to share them with the world.”

“I am honored that our tigers will go on exhibit for my birthday and just in time for Father’s Day weekend,” said Siegfried.

As with the last cubs the garden got several years ago, students from the Clark County School District will get to enter a contest to name the cubs.
