My then-boyfriend (now husband) and I were in town for his niece’s wedding and we and his family ended up going there every morning for the great buffet (which has since kind of gone downhill – we’ve tried it a couple more times!).

Since undergoing the name change it’s also had some major renovations, including the addition of a gigantic mermaid tank in the Mermaid Restaurant and Lounge.

The 117,000 gallon tank contains over 5000 fish and live coral and is actually maintained by on-staff marine biologists. They feed the fish three times a day at 1:30 p.m., 4:30 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. and answer audience questions using microphones inside their scuba masks.

The live mermaid shows are performed by two mermaids, including an Olympic-medalist synchronized swimmer, Heather Carrasco. The mermaids use submerged tubes attached to the bottom of the tank to breathe.

The Mermaid Lounge is open every day from 10:00am to 3:00am, and 24 hours Friday and Saturday.

Silverton Hotel & Casino
3333 Blue Diamond Rd.

Post from: The Las Vegas Adventurer
