The Mentalist at Hooters Hotel & Casino

The Mentalist at Hooters Hotel & Casino

Gerry McCambridge is Las Vegas’s famous Mentalist and has not only appeared on Criss Angel’s “Phenomenon,” “The Today Show,” “The Late Show with David Letterman,” and CNN, but the LVRJ’s Best of Las Vegas nominated him “Best Magician” in Las Vegas, beating out David Copperfield and Penn & Teller!
His show doesn’t have smoke, flashy lights or gags, but involves the art of “mentalism,” or extracting information from or persuading people to do what he wants them to do by using misdirection and “reading” the person. McCambridge isn’t your typical magician in that he also explains what …read more

Hotel Spotlight: Treasure Island

Hotel Spotlight: Treasure Island

Treasure Island – now trying hard to be called simply “ti” – was built in 1993 by Steve Wynn for $450 million as part of the Mirage Resorts. It has 2,885 rooms and is located on the Las Vegas Strip.

The pirate theme of the resort was an attraction for the hotel’s first decade (during the “family friendly-ing” of Las Vegas) which included a free nightly pirate show in Buccaneer Bay.
It switched gears in 2003 toward a more sexy, edgy feel with “The Sirens of TI,” a new show in the now-defunct Bay, which was renamed …read more

LVRJ’s 27th Annual Best of Las Vegas 2008 Poll

LVRJ’s 27th Annual Best of Las Vegas 2008 Poll

Every year the Las Vegas Review Journal allows locals and visitors alike to submit their picks for the Best of Las Vegas. From best restaurant to best souvenir, you get to submit your preferences for what makes Las Vegas great!
The categories this year have been pared down from 248 to 175, though you can vote in as many or as few categories as you want. In the past the ballot has only been available via the newspaper, but this year they’ve introduced an online form. (No double entries, though – they will be checking!) Those who submit online will also …read more

The Best of Las Vegas

The Best of Las Vegas

I have a love/hate thing with the Review Journal’s Best of Las Vegas that they publish every year.
On the one hand, you can find some really great stuff (you really should try the Bobbie) that you normally wouldn’t have, but on the other hand you have to wonder if the readers even try (Taco Bell was voted best tacos for 12 years. No joke. And P.F. Chang’s apparently has the best Chinese, and Olive Garden has the best Italian. Just… no.). At least the RJ staff manage to scope out restaurants without a dollar value menu.
Some of it’s pretty humorous …read more

Nevada Power Rate Increase

Nevada Power Rate Increase

But over the summer they’ve instituted a 11.5% rate hike, and I saw the light (so to speak). This increase has raised the average power bill $25 per month.
Nevada Power claims this will help us save money in the long run since they just dropped over $1.3 billion dollars on a new infrastructure, but how kind of them to force this on residents during the hottest months of the year.
“This rate …read more
