The Monte Carlo Hotel to Reopen

The Monte Carlo Hotel to Reopen

It didn’t make it by Super Bowl Sunday, but the Monte Carlo Hotel, which caught fire last month, is set to reopen this Friday, February 15th. The hotel will continue to relocate guests to other hotels through the 14th.
Crews have been working almost constantly on clean-up, with most of the fire damage located on the upper exterior facade and roof of the building. Some areas will remained closed for the foreseeable future but these should not inconvenience guests.
It has since been determined that welders working on the roof were neglectful by not laying down “slag mats” prior to …read more

Cher and Bette Midler to Replace Celine Dion

Cher and Bette Midler to Replace Celine Dion

After a five year run, Celine Dion ended her “A New Day” show at Caesars Palace this past December. It’s been expected for a while that Bette Midler would be replacing her onstage – that was announced in 2006.
And though it was also hinted at in 2006, it was “officially” announced this morning that Cher will also take the stage, preceding Bette this spring with Bette taking over in the fall. Cher’s stage is said to include a new set for each song and it’s probably a safe bet that her outfits will also see some frequent changing.

Find Super Bowl XLII Parties in Las Vegas

Find Super Bowl XLII Parties in Las Vegas

By now it’s probably safe to say that everyone knows corporations are avoiding using the words “Super Bowl” when advertising any kind of get-together involving the Super Bowl, especially parties for “The Big Game.”
Incidentally, the NFL and Las Vegas had a pretty good relationship regarding the Super Bowl up until a few years ago:

Mystère at Treasure Island

We took the kids to see Mystère at Treasure Island last night. My husband and I went six years ago by ourselves because the kids were too young, but we decided they were old enough to appreciate it now (they’re 7 and 9), and we were right!

Monte Carlo Hotel Hopes to Open by Super Bowl Sunday

Monte Carlo Hotel Hopes to Open by Super Bowl Sunday

While the fire damage from the Monte Carlo fire last week is mostly superficial and an inspection on Saturday confirmed that it’s safe to inhabit, hotel officials have decided to keep the hotel closed for now while the investigation and inspections continue. They’re hoping to re-open within the next two weeks, though, in time for Super Bowl Sunday on February 3.
A lot will have to be done before then: Clark County Building Department chief Ron Lynn said debris could fall on areas where people might be and will require the blackened exterior to be repaired; several exits are not …read more

Don’t Touch That Minibar!

Don’t Touch That Minibar!

Unless you plan to pay for it, that is! I was surprised to learn last night that several hotels along the Strip are now using scales and even motion-detectors with their minibars that charge you if items are moved or removed. It doesn’t matter if you’re just looking at the label or change your mind – once the device registers that an item has removed you’re charged for it.
The Wynn was the subject of the post linked above (the scale is built into the wooden tray), but at least a few other hotels are also employing the feature: Red Rock …read more
