It’s been several years since we last went to the Fantastic Indoor Swapmeet here in town. It was dark and crowded and noisy and I have no reason to think that’s changed over the years! We found what we were looking for (summer hats for the kids), but as with anywhere, buyer beware (knock-offs galore) and keep an eye on the prices!

Gelato Cafe is celebrating their grand opening this week with a “Pledge your love OUT LOUD on the Strip” promotion. On February 14 from 3 to 10pm at their new location on in front of the Fashion Show Mall, guests can use a microphone to proclaim their love to the one they adore!

Beatlemania hits Las Vegas with Fab Four Mania at the Sahara Hotel. Beatle impersonators Gavin Pring (George Harrison), Steven Craig (John Lennon), Frank Mendonca (Paul McCartney), and Tony Felicetta (Ringo Starr) perform Beatle hits live nightly in the Sahara Theater.
Locals get in for just $25 this Saturday at 7pm with proceeds going to the Nevada Cancer Institute. The show is kid friendly and lasts for about 90 minutes. Check out the Sahara Hotel website for show times and available and ticket purchases!

We took the kids to see Mystère at Treasure Island last night. My husband and I went six years ago by ourselves because the kids were too young, but we decided they were old enough to appreciate it now (they’re 7 and 9), and we were right!

My husband recently joined a bowling league through work and their first meet-up is tonight which has inspired me to write about, what else, bowling in Las Vegas! Spouses were invited to join as well, and while I do like to bowl I’m not terribly good at it unless a Wii is involved, so I decided Thursday nights will be girls-night-in for me and the kids.

Buffets are as Las Vegas as Elvis and neon. However, over the years they’ve gone through quite a transformation. Many of them no longer resemble the standard lunchroom look that they did for so long, instead they’ve undergone makeovers to look like quaint markets, gourmet eateries or art galleries.

UNLV and Thomas & Mack Center present Walking With Dinosaurs – The Live Experience. Fifteen “live” dinosaurs take center stage to depict the dinosaurs’ evolution spanning their 200 million year existence. Stars of the show include 15 actual-sized dinosaurs including the Tyrannosaurus Rex, Stegosaurus, Brachiosaurus, and the Raptor.

Our forecast this week predicted the chance of snow over the next few days, but as usual, the closer we got, it changed to rain, and now it’s just supposed to be cloudy. While this is disappointing for those of us who actually like and/or miss snow (or even rain), we don’t have to despair!

One of our family traditions each year is to drive around surrounding neighborhoods a couple of days before Christmas and look at the house lights.
There’s one house down the street that goes all out every year: Decorations start going up the day after Thanksgiving and continue all throughout the following weekend. Once they’re up cars pull over in front of the house to take it all in, and every year new stuff is added.

This year they added a countdown timer in the window! The kids got a kick out of that.
