Cher and Bette Midler to Replace Celine Dion

Cher and Bette Midler to Replace Celine Dion

After a five year run, Celine Dion ended her “A New Day” show at Caesars Palace this past December. It’s been expected for a while that Bette Midler would be replacing her onstage – that was announced in 2006.
And though it was also hinted at in 2006, it was “officially” announced this morning that Cher will also take the stage, preceding Bette this spring with Bette taking over in the fall. Cher’s stage is said to include a new set for each song and it’s probably a safe bet that her outfits will also see some frequent changing.

Find Super Bowl XLII Parties in Las Vegas

Find Super Bowl XLII Parties in Las Vegas

By now it’s probably safe to say that everyone knows corporations are avoiding using the words “Super Bowl” when advertising any kind of get-together involving the Super Bowl, especially parties for “The Big Game.”
Incidentally, the NFL and Las Vegas had a pretty good relationship regarding the Super Bowl up until a few years ago:

Mystère at Treasure Island

Mystère at Treasure Island

We took the kids to see Mystère at Treasure Island last night. My husband and I went six years ago by ourselves because the kids were too young, but we decided they were old enough to appreciate it now (they’re 7 and 9), and we were right!

Lied Discovery Children’s Museum ‘Cool Moves’ Exhibit

Lied Discovery Children’s Museum ‘Cool Moves’ Exhibit

The Lied Discovery Children’s Museum first opened to the public in September 1990 and has since become Las Vegas’s major educational institution, having served more than 1.5 million children and their families and over 350,000 children with school field trip programs and tours designed to supplement school curriculum.
What sets it apart from other more traditional museums are the hands-on exhibits in the arts, sciences and humanities, a Traveling Exhibition Gallery, an Early Childhood Pavilion, and an eight-story Science Tower in 22,000 square feet of exhibit space. It has also been voted Best Museum in Las Vegas by the readers of …read more

Walking With Dinosaurs: The Live Experience

Walking With Dinosaurs: The Live Experience

UNLV and Thomas & Mack Center present Walking With Dinosaurs – The Live Experience. Fifteen “live” dinosaurs take center stage to depict the dinosaurs’ evolution spanning their 200 million year existence. Stars of the show include 15 actual-sized dinosaurs including the Tyrannosaurus Rex, Stegosaurus, Brachiosaurus, and the Raptor.
Based on the award-winning BBC TV series, the show is a narrated tour through the many ages of the dinosaurs by a lone, onstage “archaeologist.” The dialog is full of the science and geology of the times – plate tectonics, continental drift as well as details about the 15 species represented. All …read more

Snow Day at Mount Charleston

Snow Day at Mount Charleston

Our forecast this week predicted the chance of snow over the next few days, but as usual, the closer we got, it changed to rain, and now it’s just supposed to be cloudy. While this is disappointing for those of us who actually like and/or miss snow (or even rain), we don’t have to despair!

Mount Charleston is located about half an hour northwest of Las Vegas. It’s a wonderful getaway year-round: in the summer it stays cool and bearable (with some decent campgrounds), and in the winter Las Vegas locals can have a taste of what a real winter …read more

Las Vegas Christmas Lights Update

Las Vegas Christmas Lights Update

I was flipping through the stack of mail this afternoon on my way back from the mailbox and came close to tossing the “Centennial View,” a small “neighborhood newspaper” that clutters up our mailbox every few days.
The front page caught my eye, though, with a scene that looked familiar: The paper had done a small article on the house down the street!
The retired homeowners said that it takes them a full week to get the decorations up and they even have neighborhood kids start coming around prior to Thanksgiving asking when it’s going to be ready. I admit, I …read more
