I’m not sure how widespread this story is, but last week Las Vegans heard the news that the Endoscopy Center of Southern Nevada and a few other related clinics had, for the last four years, been reusing vials and syringes from patient to patient to save money.
From 2004 to January 2008, 40,000 people are said to have been put at risk by this unbelievable lack of intelligence.

The Monte Carlo Hotel to Reopen

It didn’t make it by Super Bowl Sunday, but the Monte Carlo Hotel, which caught fire last month, is set to reopen this Friday, February 15th. The hotel will continue to relocate guests to other hotels through the 14th.
Crews have been working almost constantly on clean-up, with most of the fire damage located on the upper exterior facade and roof of the building. Some areas will remained closed for the foreseeable future but these should not inconvenience guests.

The Palazzo Hotel Finally Gets Its Grand Opening

The Palazzo Hotel, which had a small, unofficial opening just before New Year’s, is set to officially open on January 19th.
The Grand Opening Weekend will feature performances by Diana Ross, Seal, Andy Garcia & The Cineson All-Stars, the cast of Jersey Boys, along with some surprise guest appearances for the Luminaries and Legends concert. The event will be hosted by Wayne Brady. Tickets can be purchased here.

The theme has been announced for this year’s huge New Year’s bash on the Strip (dubbed America’s Party): “The Best is Yet to Come.”
The event will include approximately 30,000 pyrotechnic effects from seven Strip hotels. Fremont Street will be having its own mini party with a 70’s and 80’s theme with performances from The Bangles and The Doobie Brothers.
303,000 guests are expected to attend. The Las Vegas Monorail will be running from 7am New Year’s Eve to 3am New Year’s Day.

The floating ice rink has arrived at Lake Las Vegas!
It’s no Rockefeller Center, though – the rink can only hold up to 60 skaters at a time. The rink uses 110 five-gallon buckets of water and a 12,000-pound chiller unit to help keep the ice cold.
The floating ice rink will be open until Feb. 17 at 9pm.

Robert Goulet to be Honored In Vegas

The Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority has asked hotel-casinos to honor Robert Goulet, the late singer and actor who died last week at the age of 73 while waiting for a lung transplant, by featuring his name on their marquees this Friday. His name appeared for years on the Las Vegas Strip and will be there again the day of his funeral.

A traffic ticket moratorium has been in affect since yesterday until tomorrow (Thursday) from 8am to 4pm. Offenders with outstanding traffic warrants are able to pay off the ticket(s) without fear of incarceration. Another moratorium will happen next Tuesday until next Thursday (16th-18th) as well.
This is for moving violations only, not parking tickets, and is good for up to four warrants but will not work if you’ve already got a mandatory court appearance.
