It’s not hard to see how it happens: People bring an illness in with them, whether they’re aware of it or not, do their thing here and fly back home. But while they’re here they’ve come in contact with countless other people, slot machines, chips, restaurant chairs — you get the idea.

Even if you’re not usually very worried about germs or what you touch, it’s not a bad idea to carry around a pack of hand wipes or a squeeze bottle of sanitizer in your purse or bag and use them frequently. You could very likely save yourself a week of misery with a head cold at best, or something more serious at worst. Not all illnesses are airborne – simply touching your nose or mouth with an unclean finger can transfer germs and bacteria, and Vegas being as dry as it is makes a dry nose, lips and eyes the perfect place for bacteria to get in!

A saline nasal spray also makes a good addition to your travel bag. You may think the heat won’t get you but trust me, it’s pretty miserable to be holed up in a hotel room with a bloody nose! Saline nasal sprays are not addictive and are perfectly safe to use. They can be picked up at any pharmacy or any major retailer.

Along those lines, a good lubricating eye drop will make sure you’re able to see the beautiful sights of the Strip without irritation. It’s not only hot here, it gets pretty windy as well! We use Allergen Refresh Liquigel, which can also be picked up pretty much anywhere.

I also don’t know a single person who lives here who doesn’t use lip balm on a regular basis! We stick to plain old Carmex, but be careful that you don’t leave it in your car – you’ll come back to a liquidy mess when you attempt to pull the cap off!

It may go without saying that sunscreen is an absolute must, but it needs to make the packing list! These 115 degree temps don’t come from the moon, after all!

Alcohol is also a known diuretic. A good tip — especially for the hot summer months — is to drink 8oz of water for every alcoholic drink you consume to avoid becoming dehydrated. Also keep a bottle of water constantly with you if you plan to travel by foot or car. Your body is constantly losing liquid, and even more so in the hotter, drier climate.

Lastly, don’t worry about how you look if you do carry all these things around with you – you won’t be the only one doing it, and it will help ensure your stay in Vegas is as fun and stress-free as it can be!

Post from: The Las Vegas Adventurer
