I woke up to what I thought was strong wind but realized it was thunder off in the distance. Within 15 minutes it was right on top of us and we had a freaked out dog and two freaked out kids (the oldest slept right through it). We finally got back to sleep when another one was on top of us around 4. It’s still drizzly but I can see some blue sky on the horizon. Too bad because I love overcast, rainy days.

The morning news is having a lot of fun spotting the people caught on film by the traffic helicopters, thinking they can drive through the flooded areas. The National Weather Service have just issued a flash flood warning for the next two hours. Helpful flooding links can be found here and here. The local weather guy is saying he hasn’t seen flooding this bad in ten years.

Needless to say I’m pretty exhausted this morning but I can’t go crawl back into bed after getting the husband set for work – it’s the first day of school! Clark County (where Las Vegas is located) will have over 333,000 students starting school this morning, which is 12,000 more than last year. We’re still experiencing a teacher shortage of about 350 teachers, which averages out to about one teacher per Clark County school. However, I did find an interesting thread at the LVRJ reader forum.

Post from: The Las Vegas Adventurer
