New Year’s Eve in Las Vegas

As you’d expect there are a lot of things to do around the valley on New Year’s Eve!
- America’s Party on Fremont Street. The theme of the big bash on the Strip is “The Best is Yet to Come” and an estimated 300,000+ people are expected to attend (or, as the newscasters say every year, “300,000 of your closest friends!” Locals know who I’m talking about, right?).
- Rock ‘N Roll Wine New Year’s Eve at Cafe Ba Ba Reeba: If you want to be awake to greet the new year, this is the place to be! Their New Years Eve Package includes a four course dinner, two live bands, a DJ, reserved seating inside or outside, and party favors. The cost is $90 per person plus tax and tip and does not include alcohol. Call 258-1211 for more info.
- Just Jazz: A sophisticated way to ring in the new year! Listen to the talents of Cocho Arbe on the piano, Tim Jauff on the upright bass, Ryan Rose on drums, Wayne DeSilva on tenor sax and the vocals of Joyce Simpson. It’s $250 per couple with two hours of open bar, a champagne toast, gourmet hors d’oeuvres, desserts and more. Tables can only be reserved by calling 650-0432. General public will have bar seating only.
Of course, many of the hotels on the Strip will have their own parties as well. Vegas.com has an excellent list of parties and nightclubes, including admission prices.
New Year’s Eve transportation:
- The Las Vegas Monorail [map]
- CAT (Citizens Area Transit) bus routes and schedules
- Las Vegas Designated Driver Programs
- Nevada Taxicab Authority
(Keep in mind some cabbies will not travel very far off-strip and will just leave you high and dry if you’re too far away. My experience involved a phone call from my sister-in-law and her husband at three in the morning when they were visiting three weeks ago because they were stranded by two taxi companies after being told by each that a car would be there within 20 minutes.)
