Las Vegas Weekend Events

The weather has cooled down a bit (we’re only hitting 90 now!) so it’s time to head outside and have some fun:

Friday September 28

  • wwextravaganza.jpgThe Pahrump Wild West Extravaganza begins today. There will be live country and western bands, a dinner theatre and melodrama both Friday and Saturday nights as well as an “Old Church” Sunday service.
  • The District at Green Valley Ranch has re-opened their Free Outdoor Picture Show. Tonight’s showing is Monsters Inc. Bring blankets and picnic baskets (no glass, alcohol or smoking). Located at 2240 Village Walk Drive in Henderson. Call 702-564-8595 for more information.
  • Valley Cheese & Wine in Henderson holds a wine and cheese sampling on Friday evenings from 4-7 pm and Saturday afternoons from noon to 7pm. They’re located at 1770 West Horizon Ridge Parkway in Henderson.
  • Don’t forget the annual Utah Shakespearan Festival in Cedar City (about two hours north of Vegas) which began September 25 and runs until October 27!
  • Artexpo comes to Vegas for the first time at the Mandalay Bay and opens today. It will feature art created by celebrities, including Tony Curtis, Jimi Hendrix, Janis Joplin, John Lennon, and Paul McCartney. It opens at noon and runs until 6pm tonight, tomorrow from 11am - 6pm, and Sunday from 11am - 5pm. Tickets are $10 per day, $5 for seniors/students. Children 12 and under are free.
  • The new season of “Las Vegas” premieres tonight at 10pm on NBC

Saturday September 29

  • Soul Food Farmers Market opens the last Saturday of every month and includes fresh produce, barbecue, and fish, as well as live entertainment with musicians and dancers. Begins at 4pm and runs to 8pm, located at Edmond Town Center Owens Ave & H St.
  • zioncanyon.jpg Zion Canyon Field Institute at the Zion Canyon National Park (2.5 hours north of Vegas) is offering several fall workshops through November. This weekend’s workshop is “The Illustrated Journal” and costs $50. Bring a box lunch for a group picnic lunch break. Limited to 11 participants, 16 years and older.
  • Stock car and drag racing resumes at the Las Vegas Motor Speedway today. Spectator gates will open at 5 p.m. General admission is $10 for adults, $8 for senior citizens and $5 for children ages 6-12. Children five and under are free. A Family Four Pack may be purchased for $26. A full schedule can be found here.
  • Tonight’s Free Outdoor Picture Show at The District is “Bewitched.” (see above for more info)
  • Kenny G with Fireworks at The Stars on the Lake Series at the MonteLago Village Waterfront. General Admission/Lawn: $50.00 (no chairs or coolers, blankets only). Call 702-564-1600 for more info.

Sunday September 30

  • Hogs & Heifers Funday begins at 2pm and runs until 6pm. Includes barbecue, beer and blues. Located at 201 N. 3rd St. Call 702-676-1457 for more info.
  • The Aruba Casino will be hosting Swing Dance lessons for beginners from 6:30pm to 7:30pm, and intermediate lessons at 7:30pm to 8:30pm. First lesson is free, subsequent lessons are $5 each. Contact Mark at 702-236-6792 for more information. Located at the Aruba Hotel 1215 Las Vegas Blvd So.
