Hotel Spotlight: Circus Circus
Circus Circus Hotel and Casino first opened on October 18, 1968. After a major renovation in 1997 (thus changing the hotel’s theme from a typical American circus to a French-Canadian, Cirque de Soleil style), the hotel boasted a new 35-story hotel tower and a grand total of 3,774 rooms within 101,000 square feet.
The hotel is the only one on the Strip that provides camping amenities within its 399 space RV park run by Kampgrounds of America (KOA). Circus Circus can also lay claim to the biggest permanent bigtop in the world!
The Adventuredome, located under the bright pink bigtop, could be considered the hotel’s most distinguishable feature (and probably the most headache-inducing place I’ve ever been!). It sits on 5 of the property’s 44 acres and features 25 indoor amusement park rides. Every October since 2003 it transforms into the “Frightdome,” a Halloween event with haunted houses and scary rides (but only for guests over 13!).
Popular restaurants on the property include The Steakhouse, Mexitalia X-Press, Blue Iguana, Garden Grill, and of course its own Circus Buffet.
Typical hotel amenities include a 800-occupant conference room, three swimming pools, race and sports books, a wedding chapel, and an arcade.
Like a lot of Las Vegas hotels it’s been used in many movies, including Diamonds Are Forever, Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas, Baby Geniuses, and Austin Powers: International Man of Mystery.
