I can’t tell you how many times in my life I’ve been up and down Interstate 15, or as it’s more commonly called, the I-15! The I-15 is a transcontinental north-south interstate highway that runs through Montana, Idaho, Utah, Arizona, Nevada, and California.
Having grown up in northern Utah with grandparents in southern California, the I-15 was the fastest and most direct route for Thanksgivings, Christmases and Easters spent with extended family. Vegas is a popular travel destination, and for good reason. Deals are found at practically every locale, from buffets to shows to souvenir shops. But with over two million residents, it’s also a pretty great place to live, offering even more deals to locals!
A trend that’s gaining more popularity lately are “staycations” – a vacation taken close to home. They’re cheap – you don’t have to pay for airfare, hotels, rental cars, etc. – and you get a chance to learn more about your city and discover things about it you may not have known before.

It’s probably safe to say that anyone who’s ever had In-N-Out Burger suddenly just got very hungry! Truth be told, Alicia can keep her Chik-Fil-A (which Vegas is, admittedly, sorely lacking) because I have In-N-Out!
In-N-Out Burger is, without exception, something everyone in my family can agree on when we need a quick lunch or dinner. It’s also the first place visiting friends and family want to go – in fact, one brother-in-law loves it so much we were waiting at the front door for them to open at 10:30am during his last visit!

Very sadly, the Pass It On Las Vegas website I wrote about a while ago has closed its doors. No real explanation was given though it was hinted that bandwidth was an issue. Several other members stepped in when the problem first came to light and started up off-shoot groups though many of them seem to be struggling as well, since most members of the original PIOLV weren’t able to hear about them before the site shut down.

The Nevada Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA) will be sponsoring the 2nd Annual Jennifer Harman Charity Poker Tournament to be held on Friday, April 18 inside The Venetian Poker Room.
The no-limit Texas hold’em poker tournament will begin at 3:00 pm and all proceeds of the tournament and live and silent auctions will benefit the Nevada SPCA no-kill animal shelter.
Last year’s event raised $130,000 for the Nevada SPCA, a no-kill animal shelter that gives food and shelter to thousands of homeless Las Vegas animals.

Fox 5 Vegas is teaming up with 97.1 to host the 2008 Variety Kids-On-the-Go-athon. The two day telethon starts tomorrow at 6am and runs until 7pm, and Thursday at the same times as well.
Donations can be made by calling 702-568-KIDS (702-568-5437), and all donations go to help local children and families in need.
Variety works to improve the quality of life for children with special needs in Southern Nevada.
Through the “Kids on the Go” program, Variety provides freedom of movement through customized adaptive equipment to children whose families are unable to afford the expensive, yet much needed mobility equipment.

Not too long after we moved here, my friend Alicia turned me on to what has become an invaluable resource – the Pass It On Las Vegas message board.
Very similar to a freecycle list, Pass It On allows Las Vegas residents to give away, pick up, sell and buy items they no longer need. In a city that is constantly moving – both in and out! – it’s a fantastic way to find furniture, books, clothing and much more before you go out and buy!

I just came across a handy utility the other day that finds ATM locations for you pretty much anywhere in the world.
I plugged in Las Vegas, which you can find a here. I’ve also added it to the sidebar over to the right. Locations are listed alphabetically or you can use the drop-down box to find a specific bank or branch name.
When we first moved here it wasn’t terribly hard to find one for our bank, which seems to be everywhere, but when relatives and friends came from out of state they weren’t crazy about paying non-bank fees …read more

Every year the Las Vegas Review Journal allows locals and visitors alike to submit their picks for the Best of Las Vegas. From best restaurant to best souvenir, you get to submit your preferences for what makes Las Vegas great!
The categories this year have been pared down from 248 to 175, though you can vote in as many or as few categories as you want. In the past the ballot has only been available via the newspaper, but this year they’ve introduced an online form. (No double entries, though – they will be checking!)
