Arrive in Las Vegas to a beautiful sunny day, and around 90 degrees.
Checked into my hotel, got settled in my room, and then met up with some friends for a little Cold Stone Creamery Ice Cream. 
Cold Stone is located at the Excalibur Hotel & Casino (in photo).  I’ve never really loved the medieval theme of this place.  All those knights and princesses running around, and lots of kids and families.  But you gotta love the place for the ice cream. …read more

No, it’s not Venice.  It’s the Gondola ride at the Venetian Hotel in Las Vegas, Nevada.
Okay, it’s a little touristy, and it’s definitely NOT Venice, but it’s still a bit of romantic fun away from the flashing lights and noise of the casinos.  You need to take a break from the fast paced action some time, and this isn’t a bad choice.

Arguably the biggest and best dive bar in Vegas is also known as the “Happiest Place on Earth,” though the kind of entertainment it offers is vastly different than the ol’ mouse ears!
From the minute you enter the Double Down Saloon you know you’re not going to be getting anything froofy. But then what else would you expect from a bar that created the bacon martini and “Ass Juice?” You only live once, right?

The Miracle Mile Shops (formerly Desert Passage) is an enclosed shopping mall at Planet Hollywood, directly across the Strip from the Bellagio.
The minute you walk into the mall you’re transported to a cool desert oasis with themed store fronts and even a beautifully realistic sky painted on the rounded ceiling. Speaking only from personal experience, this is one mall that got it right – instead of feeling overwhelmed and rushed it’s a very pleasant and calming shopping venue!

With the closure of the Wet ‘n’ Wild swim park in 2004 finding a public swimming pool in Las Vegas can mean doing a bit of research before heading out. And though the park officials say they plan to re-open another park in the future we’ll all have to make do until that happens!

To celebrate its first year, the Springs Preserve is throwing an all-you-can-eat ice cream party this Sunday, June 8th, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m! Activities will include improv comedy, live music, Celtic dancers, and tours.
Tickets are only $6 and include admission to all museums and galleries.
In its first year, the Springs Preserve has produced enough electricity from its 2,200 solar panels to power 80 homes for a whole year! The Nevada Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA) will be sponsoring the 2nd Annual Jennifer Harman Charity Poker Tournament to be held on Friday, April 18 inside The Venetian Poker Room.
The no-limit Texas hold’em poker tournament will begin at 3:00 pm and all proceeds of the tournament and live and silent auctions will benefit the Nevada SPCA no-kill animal shelter.
Last year’s event raised $130,000 for the Nevada SPCA, a no-kill animal shelter that gives food and shelter to thousands of homeless Las Vegas animals.

Nevada Garden Clubs will be sponsoring their annual spring flower show, “Dancing Into Spring,” this Saturday from 11:30am to 4pm, and Sunday from 10am to 3pm. The event takes place at the Nevada Garden Club Center in Lorenzi Park.
The Hawaiian Civic Club will also have a demonstration of lei making and will performance Hawaiian dances from 1pm to 3pm on Saturday. Admission is free!

Once a month, the North Las Vegas Library hosts “Poetry Open Mic” for all types of poetry.
The poetry reading happens every second Thursday (tomorrow!) from 6:30pm to 8:30pm with sign up at the door. Guests must be 16 years old or older, and two poems, songs, pieces of writing or five minutes of mic time are allowed per participant. It must be noted if you are reading the work of others. Refreshments will be served.
