Pet-Friendly Las Vegas Hotels

Pet-Friendly Las Vegas Hotels

Sadly, there aren’t many hotels in the valley that allow our fuzzy friends! Non-service animals are not allowed on casino floors, so none of the popular hotels on the Strip allow them.
There are a few, though, and if you’re determined to travel with your four-legged family members, check out the hotels below. As always, it’s always a good idea to call ahead first to double check their policies and fees as well!

Hotel Spotlight: Excalibur

Hotel Spotlight: Excalibur

The Excalibur Hotel and Casino opened June 19, 1990 with an Arthurian-legend theme at a cost of $290 million. The outside castle facade is said to be modeled after the castle in Carcassone, France.
The famous Tournament of Kings show is a permanent feature of the resort and features simulated medieval jousting surrounded by dining guests. Other restaurants also have Arthurian names like the Roundtable Buffet, Sir Galahad’s Prime Cuts, The Steakhouse of Camelot, Village Food Court, and Regale Italian eatery.
Other popular attractions include the adults-only Thunder From Down Under, a medieval-themed wedding chapel, a pool, and a spa. …read more

Hotel Spotlight: New York-New York

New York-New York Hotel & Casino opened January 3, 1997. Its New York City theme is one of the more detailed on the Strip, and the skyline of the outside facade includes the Empire State Building and the Chrysler Building.
A pool out front represents New York Harbor, a half-scale (150 ft) replica of the Statue of Liberty, and replicas of the Brooklyn Bridge, Soldiers and Sailors Monument, the Whitney Museum of American Art, Ellis Island, and Grand Central Terminal.
The main casino area inside is named after Central Park, and meeting areas, bars, and eateries are named after …read more

Hotel Spotlight: Treasure Island

Treasure Island – now trying hard to be called simply “ti” – was built in 1993 by Steve Wynn for $450 million as part of the Mirage Resorts. It has 2,885 rooms and is located on the Las Vegas Strip.

The pirate theme of the resort was an attraction for the hotel’s first decade (during the “family friendly-ing” of Las Vegas) which included a free nightly pirate show in Buccaneer Bay.
It switched gears in 2003 toward a more sexy, edgy feel with “The Sirens of TI,” a new show in the now-defunct Bay, which was renamed …read more

Palms Place Hotel and Condo

Palms Place Hotel and Condo

February 29th marks the opening of Las Vegas’s newest destination: Palms Place.
Boasting 47 stories with 599 glass-walled rooms, the hotel/condo contains no gambling facilities and is located a mile off-Strip. Don’t let that dissuade you from checking it out, though: a moving-sidewalk “skytube” will whisk you the 100 yards to the Palms Casino!
The rooms provide views of the Strip and mountains and are equipped with full kitchens, jacuzzi tubs, and private balconies. 7,000 sq ft penthouses with infinity pools that hang over the building’s edge are also available.
Other amenities include a Kerry Simon-run steak and sushi restaurant, a …read more

Don’t Touch That Minibar!

Don’t Touch That Minibar!

Unless you plan to pay for it, that is! I was surprised to learn last night that several hotels along the Strip are now using scales and even motion-detectors with their minibars that charge you if items are moved or removed. It doesn’t matter if you’re just looking at the label or change your mind – once the device registers that an item has removed you’re charged for it.
The Wynn was the subject of the post linked above (the scale is built into the wooden tray), but at least a few other hotels are also employing the feature: Red Rock …read more
