Weekend Trip to the Grand Canyon

Today’s guest post is from Mary Jo Manzanares, b5media’s Travel & Culture Channel Editor and travel blogger at Flyaway Cafe.
When you’re ready to escape the glitz and glamor that is Las Vegas, you’ll find the polar opposite at the Grand Canyon — a peaceful beauty that will take your breath away.  It’s a good weekend trip when you’re ready for something a little different.
Grand Canyon National Park was designated a national park on February 26, 1919, and is one of the oldest national parks in the United States. It is located within Arizona, near Flagstaff, and within the parks lies …read more

October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, and to help raise awareness and a little money, Pink Jeep Tours of Las Vegas has teamed up with the Nevada Cancer Institute for the first annual “Trek for the Cure.”
Throughout October, Pink Jeep Tours will donate $4.80 from the sales of their Red Rock Tours to the Nevada Cancer Institute in Summerlin. $4.80 sounds like a random amount, but it represents the number of years (48) that Pink Jeep Tours has been in operation throughout Sedona, Arizona and Las Vegas.
The video above gives some great information about the Tours themselves and what …read more

Picture of the Week: Red Rock Canyon

Located just 25 minutes from the Las Vegas Strip, Red Rock Canyon is a beautiful reminder of the desert landscape that surrounds the city.
The picture above is of the “Keystone Thrust Fault,” a good example of the shifting plates from millions of years ago clearly defined by the red sandstone and gray limestone.
A 13-mile Loop Drive offers visitors a chance to unwind and take in some nature, and if you’re in the mood for an extended stay there are several spots along the Loop that allow hiking. You can even bring along a picnic to enjoy at either Red …read more

Take a Walk on Vegas’s Wild Side

Take a Walk on Vegas’s Wild Side

There’s so much more to Vegas than loud casinos and flashy showgirls!
Over the years a lot of hotels and developers have been mindful of the fact that people also come to Vegas to relax, and maybe even get the kids out of the house or the hotel room once in a while too.
~ Shark Reef at the Mandalay Bay is a fantastic experience for kids and adults alike. It’s been over a year since we went last and my kids are still talking about it! Their favorite part was the 20-foot-long acrylic tunnel you can walk through while fish …read more

Miracle Mile Shops at Planet Hollywood

Miracle Mile Shops at Planet Hollywood

The Miracle Mile Shops (formerly Desert Passage) is an enclosed shopping mall at Planet Hollywood, directly across the Strip from the Bellagio.
The minute you walk into the mall you’re transported to a cool desert oasis with themed store fronts and even a beautifully realistic sky painted on the rounded ceiling. Speaking only from personal experience, this is one mall that got it right – instead of feeling overwhelmed and rushed it’s a very pleasant and calming shopping venue!
The 500,000-square-foot, 1.5 mile long mall contains 140+ stores such as Bisou Bisou, Hugo Boss, Sur La Table, and Sephora, and …read more

My husband was treated to dinner at Lucille’s Smokehouse a few months ago after finishing up a late night at work. He brought home a few ribs for me to try and I’ve been impatiently waiting until we could all go together!
We finally made it out to Green Valley Ranch in Henderson to try it out and I think it’s safe to say the entire family is hooked – it’s definitely one of our new favorite restaurants!
