It’s been several years since we last went to the Fantastic Indoor Swapmeet here in town. It was dark and crowded and noisy and I have no reason to think that’s changed over the years! We found what we were looking for (summer hats for the kids), but as with anywhere, buyer beware (knock-offs galore) and keep an eye on the prices!

About 48-50 NASCAR team haulers, transporting the Sprint Cup race cars that will compete this weekend, will parade north on the Strip this afternoon.
The transporters will be staged at 2:30 in the right lane of Las Vegas Boulevard just south of Russell Road. Once all the trucks are lined up, the haulers will move north using the middle lane of northbound Las Vegas Boulevard. The haulers will proceed approximately five miles to Sahara Avenue before returning to I-15 and up to the speedway.

The a cappella group Toxic Audio hits the V Theater tonight:
“Five electrifying entertainers perform an eclectic mix of almost every musical genre ranging from pop to jazz, hip-hop to country to comedic parodies. Their audience appeal is universal with a fan base and audience members ranging in ages from 7 to 77. You’ll think Toxic Audio is backed by a full band, but it’s really only five human voices.”

For the third time in less than two weeks, a shooting incident has left a Las Vegas student has been gunned down by another student.
First we had Christopher Privett who was gunned down and killed by a classmate on his way home from school on February 15.
Then there was gunfire outside the parking lot of Bonanza High School last week that ended with a 19-year-old wounded, though police say the shooting was not connected to the school. Monty Python’s Spamalot is a comedic musical “lovingly ripped off from” the film Monty Python and the Holy Grail. It premiered in Las Vegas at the Wynn Hotel last March in the newly renamed Grail Theater (formerly known as the Broadway Theater).
The Las Vegas production includes the talents of John O’Hurley of Seinfeld fame as King Arthur. It runs about 90 minutes and features the song “All For One,” most of the song “Run Away,” the Knights of Ni receiving their shrubbery, and the “Make sure he doesn’t leave” scene with Prince Herbert’s guards.

February is usually a pretty overcast, wet month for Las Vegas. This year it’s been pretty tame with only a couple of days over the last three weeks getting so much as a sprinkle.
Today is another gray day with the possibility of rain, though I don’t think anyone’s holding their breath. It still makes for nice pictures and is a nice change from the constant sun!

“Mamma Mia” at the Mandalay Bay is celebrating five years on the Strip. To date, the full-length Broadway show has broken sales records for the hotel and can boast over 2 million visitors spanning 1900 shows.
It was scheduled to end this August, but due to popular demand and a possible upcoming feature film starring Meryl Streep and Pierce Brosnan it has been extended to at least January of 2009.
