Happy 143rd Birthday, Nevada!

Happy 143rd Birthday, Nevada!

Happy Nevada Day! Today commemorates the admission of the State of Nevada into the union on October 31, 1864. In 2003 the state legislature decided that it would be observed on the last Friday of October (instead of on its official admission day) in the hopes that a three day weekend would garner more interest. Works for me!
It’s a state holiday so schools are out, as well as libraries, some banks, and all state offices. Post offices and trash collection are still open. LVRJ.com has a more comprehensive list.
~ The word “Nevada” is the Spanish feminine form of “covered in …read more

Ladies’ Night May Soon Be a Thing of the Past

Ladies’ Night May Soon Be a Thing of the Past

Ladies’ Night, which usually means women get in free on certain nights to bars, night clubs, etc, may soon be a thing of the past in Vegas.
Apparently a local lawyer didn’t like Las Vegas Athletic Club’s “Ladies Join Free” promotion and has filed a complaint against the gym, and the eventual ruling could have an impact on how bars and clubs treat the popular promo.
What do you think? To be fair I can see why there’s grumbling about a group of people being allowed somewhere free of charge because of their gender, on the other hand it’s always …read more

The old standby, Las Vegas Convention Center, hasn’t been able to keep up with demands over the last few years and the city has been looking for and is happy to welcome more business oriented organizations.
