5 Reasons I Don’t Like Living In Las Vegas

elvis.jpgIn general I like living in Las Vegas but there are things here and there that do bug me:

  1. “I thought what happens in Vegas stays in Vegas! Haha!” Just… stop.
  2. The weather. I thought it got hot when we lived in Utah, but it’s nothing — nothing — compared to Vegas heat. Most people brush it off with a “but it’s a dry heat,” — all that means is that it feels like a hairdryer blowing when a breeze kicks up. At least when it rains in non-dry heat areas it cools down for a bit, but not here. It just makes it muggy and that much more miserable.
  3. Being accosted by Elvis at Sam’s Club. They took a picture but I never went back to get it. I wish I was kidding.
  4. This one is kind of a contradiction to the last one, but roll with me: I hate that Vegas is stereotyped as not having any kind of culture or an identity outside of “Sin City.” I’ve only been here going on seven years but I feel defensive about it now: There’s a whole other world off-Strip and while I understand that’s where people spend the majority of their time, and is probably their biggest reason for being here, you can’t write off the whole city like that.
  5. The only green you see here comes in the form of palm trees and the occasional patch of browning lawn. I really miss lush landscaping.

[see what everyone else is ranting about!]

Awesome post. I’m one of those people who only see the casino culture of Vegas. But I hate casinos and that stands out so…. but now I know. Also, not an Elvis fan and I like living where it’s green too. Guess you don’t have to worry about me couch surfing anytime soon ;)

You know, Utah is hot but New Mexico is hotter — maybe it’s like Vegas. I liked it though. To me the one upside of NM was the lack of humidity. I’m thrilled to be back in the NW but really hate the humid stuff (so do my curls) I look crazy.

Elvis at Sam’s Club? The best I get visiting Sam’s in DC is a sample of a bad breakfast sausage.

I prefer the heat of Vegas to the humid heat where I live in Florida. It rains a lot in the summers here but it usually doesn’t cool things off (sometimes but rarely). It usually just makes the air feel like a sauna.

Both times I was in Vegas it was August and I liked that while it was so hot, I wasn’t sweating that much. I sweat up a storm in the Florida heat.

I too hate living in Vegas. I live in Southern Highlands, I’ve had my car broken into & some losers tried to break into my house. I’m so home sick, can’t wait to get out! I’m orig from L.A. There is really not much to do in Vegas and to go anywhere exciting…
you gotta drive for over 3 hrs. This place SUCKS!
