M&M’s World Las Vegas

M&M’s World Las Vegas

The rest of our day out with friends on the Strip ended at M&M’s World Las Vegas. We’ve been here many, many times over the years but it’s one of the first places I’ll tell people to visit if they get the chance. It’s located at 3785 S Las Vegas Blvd, next to the MGM Grand and across the street from the New York New York. Their store hours are Sunday – Thursday 9 AM – 11 PM; and Friday – Saturday 9 AM – 12 AM.
It’s really a fun store, packed to the gills with anything and everything M&M’s …read more

5 Reasons I Don’t Like Living In Las Vegas

5 Reasons I Don’t Like Living In Las Vegas

In general I like living in Las Vegas but there are things here and there that do bug me:

“I thought what happens in Vegas stays in Vegas! Haha!” Just… stop.
The weather. I thought it got hot when we lived in Utah, but it’s nothing — nothing — compared to Vegas heat. Most people brush it off with a “but it’s a dry heat,” — all that means is that it feels like a hairdryer blowing when a breeze kicks up. At least when it rains in non-dry heat areas it cools down for a bit, but not here. …read more

The Shark Reef at Mandalay Bay

The Shark Reef at Mandalay Bay

Yet another great reason to live in Las Vegas comes in the form of tourist attractions. One of my biggest issues when we moved here was being smacked around by tourists but the residential areas are really so far from the Strip that in our area you very rarely run into anyone that doesn’t actually live here.
Anyway, the Strip isn’t too far away that we aren’t able to take advantage of it. Normally we stay as far away form it as we can, but when friends come into town they understandably like to take in the whole Vegas experience. We …read more

Blue Man Problems

Blue Man Problems

Blue Man Group has come under fire recently for its apparent lack of concern for how a labor union works.
“Last May, stage workers for Blue Man Group voted to join the union. During the vote, many new members said they hoped of getting better pay, health care benefits and pensions. But since joining the union, the workers said there has been nothing but problems.
“‘Blue Man Group went back on its promise,’ Rovere said. ‘Blue man Matt Goldman promised his employees he would abide by the election. He lied. He’s never come to the negotiating table.’”

Top 10 Vegas Neon Experiences

Top 10 Vegas Neon Experiences

Vegas Pop has a fun article about “Top 10 Vegas Neon Experiences.”
“Elvis sang it best when he said “Bright light city gonna set my soul on fire.” Neon fuels our dreams and adds some sort of visual evidence to our hopes and expectations. Neon hit the desert in the late ’20s, but the first major sign wasn’t erected until the ’50s and since then, neon has been more important to Vegas than oxygen. Well, scientifically it’s not, but there is oxygen in New York City and Paris even sparkles their Eiffel Tower, but the excitement of flying into those …read more

Parched

Parched

It comes as no surprise that Las Vegas takes the top spot for the nation’s driest city. I have a few friends and family members I need to call and say “I told you so!”
California, Montana, Nevada and Arizona rank as the driest states, while Mobile, AL, Pensacola, FL, and New Orleans, LA took the top spots for rainiest cities.
The study ranked 195 cities in the contiguous 48 states by the amount of rainfall they received annually over a 30-year period.

Google Street View

Google Street View

Google has released a new toy: Street View Maps. You can check out the Strip without even leaving your desk.
I think it’s a neat idea, especially when used for public places like the Strip, finding a grocery store, etc, but it seems to get a bit sketchy when used on private/personal property. What do you think?

The Best of Las Vegas

The Best of Las Vegas

I have a love/hate thing with the Review Journal’s Best of Las Vegas that they publish every year.
On the one hand, you can find some really great stuff (you really should try the Bobbie) that you normally wouldn’t have, but on the other hand you have to wonder if the readers even try (Taco Bell was voted best tacos for 12 years. No joke. And P.F. Chang’s apparently has the best Chinese, and Olive Garden has the best Italian. Just… no.). At least the RJ staff manage to scope out restaurants without a dollar value menu.
Some of it’s pretty humorous …read more
